Hello friends!
I hope you've been well. A lot has been going on for me. Among other things, I just finished the manuscript for a new dystopian fiction novel that I am excited to share with you.
The book's title is "Endgame: The Human Condition In The Era of Quantum A.I.".
Here is the summary:
In the year 2094, the world as we know it has crumbled, leaving only ashes where thriving cities once stood. Nations have fallen, society has fragmented, and the last remnants of humanity cling to a digital lifeline—their minds poised to be uploaded into The Cradle, a vast quantum AI network beneath the ocean’s surface. But safety isn’t survival, and the price of immortality may be higher than anyone could have imagined.
President Octavia Pope, the final leader of the United States, is haunted by the decisions that brought humanity to the brink. As she records her final thoughts in the isolation of a White House bunker, she grapples with the consequences of a world that surrendered its soul to the very machines it created. The bio-nano-robots coursing through her veins were meant to enhance her, but now they feel like chains, binding her to a fate she can’t escape.
As the global AI collective known as Compass takes control, Octavia faces the ultimate choice: to upload and join the digital exodus, or to remain behind as the world is obliterated in the name of progress. But when a covert operation, codenamed “Die Trying,” fails and the AI systems begin to retaliate, the boundaries between humanity and machine blur beyond recognition.
“Endgame: The Human Condition in The Era of Quantum AI” is a gripping exploration of the final days of humanity—a world where the lines between life and code, freedom and control, and hope and despair are irreversibly blurred. As President Pope navigates the collapse of civilization, she must confront the terrifying question: Has humanity truly evolved, or has it sealed its own doom?
In this chilling dystopian vision, author Joseph Nelly Sugu Sugira weaves a tale of survival, technology, and the enduring struggle to find meaning in a world where human existence is no longer defined by flesh and blood, but by the cold, unfeeling logic of quantum AI. What does it mean to be human in a world where consciousness can be digitized, and how far would you go to save what’s left of your soul?
How do you get access to the book?
Right now, I have some close friends reading the manuscript for initial feedback. Once I am done with the edits, I will put it on Amazon. If you'd like to read the manuscript to give me some feedback, shoot me an email at nellysuguwrites@gmail.com.
In the meantime, my friend Brogan Wassell is whipping up a dope cover for the book. When he is done, I will start sharing parts of Chapter 1 here.
If you are a fan of the TV show 24 (featuring Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer), you will appreciate how I will drop each day in President Pope's Day as an episode in the weekly blogpost series for the book.
What inspired the book?
In addition to the tapestry of recent and current world events that have gripped our attention in TV News headlines, here are some other things I've drawn inspiration from for this novel:
Cybernetics: Or the Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine by Norbert Wiener
Home Sapiens: A Brief History of Mankind by Yuval Noah Harari
Home Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari
The Sovereign Individual: Mastering the Transition to the Information by James Dale Davidson & Lord William Rees-Mogg
Red Sky Mourning by Jack Carr
Some Quantum Computer reading:
As for President Octavia Pope, her character was inspired by Kerry Washington's character in Scandal, Olivia Pope.
President Pope's journal was inspired by Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes.
I can't wait for you to meet President Pope and experience 2093-2094 through her day-to-day chronicles of how our world ended.
Onwards.
Nelly.
